Water Soluble Vitamins for Dairy Cattle
نویسندگان
چکیده
Research on effects of water soluble vitamins when fed to dairy cows and field supplementation of some water soluble vitamins has increased markedly in the past few years. In research studies, biotin supplementation (20 mg/ day) has consistently improved hoof health of cows and often increased milk production. Supplementation of niacin, although common, has little effect on milk production unless the supplementation rate is 12 g/day and then the response is often not profitable. Adding rumenprotected choline (50 g/day) often increases milk production in early lactation and the average response is profitable. Research on folic acid, vitamin B-12, and vitamin C for dairy cows is continuing, but at the present time, inadequate data are available to recommend routine supplementation.

Plasma Levels of Water Soluble Vitamins in Various Classes of Catile
Plasma samples from suckling beef calves, transport-stressed weaned calves, 500 kg feedlot cattle, and lactating dairy cows were analyzed for vitamin C, folic acid, pantothenic acid, and vitamin B12' Plasma from stressed calves also was analyzed for vitamin B6' Differences in plasma levels were detected between groups. Plasma vitamin C was highest in suckling calves, but similar for stressed ca...
متن کاملWater-Soluble Vitamins: B-Complex and Vitamin C
What are Vitamins? Vitamins are essential nutrients found in foods. They perform specific and vital functions in a variety of body systems, and are crucial for maintaining optimal health. The two different types of vitamins are fat-soluble vitamins and water-soluble vitamins. Fat-soluble vitamins — vitamins A, D, E and K — dissolve in fat before they are absorbed in the bloodstream to carry out...
متن کاملShort communication: Fat-soluble vitamin and mineral status of milk replacer-fed dairy calves: effect of growth rate during the preruminant period.
Effects of growth rate on fat-soluble vitamin and macro- and micromineral concentrations in the circulation of preruminant dairy calves were evaluated. Dietary treatments were designed to achieve 3 targeted rates of gain [no growth (NG)=0.0 kg/d; low growth (LG)=0.55 kg/d; or high growth (HG)=1.2 kg/d] over a 7-wk period. Milk replacer (MR) intakes necessary to achieve these growth rates were e...
متن کاملB-vitamin Nutrition in Dairy Cows
The B-vitamins include thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), the B6 complex (pyridoxal, pyridoxamine, pyridoxine), biotin (B8 or Vitamin H), folic acid (B9), and B12. Each of the B-vitamins plays a key role as either an enzymatic cofactor or metabolic constituent in many facets of intermediary metabolism. For example, about half of the propionate that reaches the ru...
متن کاملSimultaneous determination of fat-soluble vitamins and provitamins in dairy products by liquid chromatography with a narrow-bore column.
A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method is described for the simultaneous determination of vitamins A, D2, D3, E and K1, retinyl acetate, retinyl palmitate, tocopherol acetate, ergosterol and 7-dehydrocholesterol in milk and butter. Narrow-bore columns are recommended because this alternative provides a good separation and efficiency, plus greater economy and sensitivity...
